AdTom Leahy believes that an investment in higher education should provide a return in the form of a relevant, sustainable job and fulfilling career. He has provided college admissions and financial aid consulting services to families since 1995 bringing value to the higher education process.
Tom is a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA), the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA). He is the author of “Plan for College, Prepare for Life the No-nonsense Guide to Higher Education,” in it’s fourth edition.
Tom earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his and master’s from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants, holding the Registered Financial Consultant (RFC) designation. He is also certified by the College of Financial Planning as an Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS).
Actively involved in the community, Tom is the founder of the Beacon Tree Foundation, a Richmond-based, non-profit organization providing support and funding for families with an emotionally disturbed or mentally ill child. He has served on the advisory councils for St. Francis Medical Center Community and the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. and is a current member the Program Committee for the Children’s Mental Health Resource Center. He sat on the board of the Three Springs Foundation, Huntsville, AL, and was the president of the Midlothian Youth Soccer League for 6 years. Tom belongs to the Kiwanis Club of Midlothian-Chesterfield.
He has frequently contributed college-planning advice in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and various other local publications, television and national radio shows.
